Dream - Every deed that humans do has different rewards. Prayer and fasting are believed by Muslims to be acts of worship that have many rewards. Especially the obligatory prayers and fasting during Ramadan, which have a very high status. These acts of worship can bring great rewards and result in sins if neglected. However, the deeds of Prophet Musa (Moses), who is beloved by Allah SWT, are not prayer and fasting, but other actions.
Looking at the story of Prophet Moses, one of the special abilities of Prophet Moses is being able to speak with Allah SWT. In that dialogue, he asked Allah SWT about what kind of worship is liked by Him.
Then, what practices does Allah SWT like from Prophet Musa? Let us together observe the dialogue of Prophet Musa as with Allah SWT and his extraordinary story that has incredible wisdom following this!
It is narrated that Prophet Musa (Moses) had the privilege of being able to speak with Allah SWT (God). Every time he wanted to pray to Him, Prophet Musa would ascend to Mount Tursina. It was on that mountain that he would have a dialogue with Allah SWT. The dialogue between Prophet Musa and Allah SWT is narrated in the book Mukasyafatul Qulub written by Imam Al-Ghazali.
"O Allah, I have performed the worship that You have commanded, which of my worship do You like, is it my prayer?" asked Prophet Moses (as). "Your prayer is only for yourself. Because prayer keeps you away from evil deeds and wrongdoing," answered Allah SWT. "What about my remembrance (dhikr)?" asked Prophet Moses (as) again. "Your remembrance is for yourself, because remembrance brings tranquility to your heart," answered Allah SWT."
"Are you satisfied?" asked Prophet Moses, still curious."Your satisfaction is only for yourself, because fasting trains oneself and restrains your desires," answered Allah SWT."Then what kind of worship do You like, O Lord?" asked Prophet Moses."When you bring happiness to someone in distress through charity. Surely I am by their side," answered Allah SWT."
Is there a story about a couple who live in poverty? In a conversation, the wife asked her husband about Prophet Moses (as) who could speak to Allah SWT.
"Her husband also agreed with that. Then the wife took the initiative to speak to Prophet Musa (Moses) so that Prophet Musa (Moses) would speak to Allah SWT so that they would be given wealth. They realized that idea the next day. And indeed, Prophet Musa (Moses) prayed to Allah SWT, mentioning the desire of the husband and wife. Allah SWT said: 'O Musa, tell them, I will give them wealth. However, I will only give them wealth for one year. And after one year, I will return them to poverty again.'"
"What Allah SWT said was conveyed by Prophet Moses to the husband and wife. The husband and wife were very happy and they truly became wealthy. However, unexpectedly, the wealth they had was not used for extravagance. Instead, it was used to help those in need and to build a shelter for travelers."
The husband and wife couple are consistent in giving charity for one year. And it turns out, their condition did not return to poverty. They remain wealthy. Then Allah SWT said: "O Musa, I have opened one door of sustenance for them, but they have opened several doors of sustenance for My servants. O Musa, so I entrust that wealth to them for a longer time."
Through this story, it shows that sharing blessings with those in need will not make someone poor or deplete their wealth. On the contrary, sharing blessings will increase the enjoyment from Allah SWT.
Meaning: "Say, 'Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts it for him. But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] - He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers.'" (Quran 34:39)
Based on the story, it can be concluded that giving charity to those in need is a highly preferred practice by Allah. Therefore, to perfect obligatory acts of worship such as obligatory prayers and fasting, let us also increase charity for those in need. Charity is not limited to material possessions, it can be in the form of anything, such as helping with physical labor, sharing knowledge for survival, and so on. So do not be fixated on charity that is only done with material possessions!
