Solution for Students' Study Companions towards State Universities in Order Not to Choose the 'Wrong Major'

Dream - In addition to attending all subjects in school, 12th grade students in high school are also busy with study companions focused on state university admissions.

Or as we commonly call it, tutoring, study companions.

For your information, a study conducted by the Indonesian Career Center Network in 2017 stated that 87 percent of student respondents admitted to not choosing a college major according to their interests.

Meanwhile, in early November 2021, Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim also mentioned that only a maximum of 20 percent of university graduates work in accordance with their study programs.

Therefore, PTN provides features that not only serve as study companions for students to pass the state university admissions, but also to help them determine their starting point (interests) and the majors that are suitable for their desired professions.

Through this series of processes, Kelas Pintar hopes not only to help students enter state universities but also to minimize the problem of choosing the 'wrong major' so that they can pursue professions that are in line with their study programs in the future.

5 Key Features in PTN from Kelas Pintar

Interest and Personality Tests

Students can take a test with a series of questions to describe their personal characteristics, which are then linked to recommendations for State Universities and suitable majors.

The resulting report from the Interest and Personality Test includes personality traits accompanied by examples of successful individuals with the same personality traits. Then, there are recommended professions based on the personality traits, and recommended majors based on the chosen profession. Interestingly, PTN from Kelas Pintar will also provide recommendations for State Universities based on the available majors, the universities with the most applicants, and the State Universities closest to the student's domicile.

However, students can still choose their own majors and State Universities based on their personal preferences if the recommended majors from the Interest and Personality Test do not match their desires. The results of this test can be accessed not only by students but also by parents.

Live Classes

This feature provides interactive online study companionship with Kelas Pintar Expert Teachers regarding national selection and independent entrance exam materials for state universities.

The subjects taught in the Live Classes include subjects related to the Scholastic Potential Test (TPS), Science Academic Potential Test (TPA) and Social Sciences Academic Potential Test (TPA).

The number of Live Class sessions is 14 sessions per week. If students want to review or are unable to attend a Live Class session, recorded sessions are also available.

Question Bank

PTN from Kelas Pintar also features a Question Bank, which is a collection of practice questions to sharpen students' understanding of the national selection and independent entrance exams for state universities.

The practice questions in the Question Bank include the Scholastic Potential Test, which consists of Indonesian Literacy; English Literacy; General Reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning; Quantitative Knowledge; Reading Comprehension & Writing (PBM); and General Knowledge & Understanding (PBU).

Then there is the Science Academic Potential Test, which consists of Science Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; and Biology. And the Social Sciences Academic Potential Test, which consists of History; Economics; Sociology; and Geography.

Try Out

To assess students' progress, PTN from Kelas Pintar also offers Try Outs. These are trial exams for state university admissions, with question materials tailored to the national selection and independent entrance exams.

The Try Out assessment method uses the Item Response Theory (IRT) method, where the assessment is based on the difficulty level of each question item determined by the accuracy ratio of each participant's answers. The IRT method is the assessment method used in the national selection for state university admissions.

Students can choose the type of Try Out they want. The options include TPS, TPS + Science Academic Potential Test (TPA), TPS + Social Sciences Academic Potential Test (TPA), and TPS + Science Academic Potential Test (TPA) + Social Sciences Academic Potential Test (TPA).

Learning Reports

During this study companionship, students and parents can view the learning progress in the Learning Reports feature. It provides information about the chances of entering State Universities based on the results of the Interest and Personality Test and personal preferences.

The report includes information about attendance in Live Class sessions per subject, average scores per subject in completed practice questions and Try Outs, along with the scores from each Try Out.
