Dream - The CEO of Zakat Management Organization (OPZ) Forum 2022 event was held by bringing together the Chairpersons of Zakat Institutions in Indonesia.

Attended by 195 zakat institutions with 119 participants, members of the Zakat Forum (FOZ) are committed to strengthening the role of zakat in national development.

Especially extreme poverty that still affects Indonesia, especially after the pandemic. Not to mention the threat of global recession in 2023.

"Economic recession can trigger economic bankruptcy characterized by weak purchasing power due to financial difficulties," said the Chairman of the Zakat Forum, Bambang Suherman, at Hotel Millenium, Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Extreme poverty is a condition where people's income is below the extreme poverty line equivalent to US$1.9 at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) 2011.

The target in 2024 is to address extreme poverty to reach 0 percent.

Deputy Secretary for Coordination of Social Welfare Improvement, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Ade Rustama, said that there are still five million people in Indonesia who are classified as living in extreme poverty.

"The number is actually not large when viewed from the total population. Currently, there are still approximately four percent of the total poor population, or around 5 million," said Ade Rustama.

Bambang explained that they continue to increase real programs for empowering the community based on zakat funds with a focus on poverty alleviation.

"We align this program with SDGs and RPJMN indicators and open wide collaboration among stakeholders to expand the benefits," added Bambang.

A number of risks that society may experience in the 2023 recession, such as rising prices of food, energy supply prices, layoffs, and increasing poverty rates, are certainly challenges for every country.

Therefore, the Zakat Forum is currently undergoing digital transformation to integrate data, facilitate Zakat Infaq Sedekah (ZIS) payments, and accelerate OPZ service processes through digitalization.

"This forum is very strategic because usually in this forum we discuss various major national issues that are directly related to poverty and the current project we are managing is the projection of a crisis in the world and its impact on Indonesia," said Bambang.

One of the things that the Zakat Forum is promoting to alleviate poverty is horticultural resources, which are aimed at providing access to daily needs for the people in Indonesia.

Both primary and complementary needs, such as rice, meat, eggs, and vegetables.

"Today we are consolidating so that we can calculate the volume of production that can be generated. So that it (resources) can fill how much of the expected percentage of needs can be supplied to the community," said Bambang.

For your information, the Zakat Forum is an association of zakat management organizations that has been established since 1997 and oversees 191 OPZs throughout Indonesia from various backgrounds and organizational scales.
