Man Escapes After 603 Days of Staying at Hotel, Unpaid Bill of Rp1 Billion

Dream - A man from India, Ankush Dutta, was reported to the police for not paying the hotel room rent for 603 days. His total bill amounted to US$70,700 or equivalent to Rp1 billion.

Ankush made a reservation at Roseate House in Delhi on May 30, 2019. He kept extending his stay and left 603 days later, precisely on January 22, 2021, without paying his bill.

According to SMCP, the hotel management reported Ankush to the police. The hotel management even accused its staff of helping Ankush avoid his bill by falsifying accounts.

In their report, the hotel management wrote that the staff falsified, deleted, added, and forged a large number of entries in the guest account.

"The accounts were falsified to conceal the actual arrears from senior management to avoid detection of deliberate illegal actions," the hotel stated in the complaint.

To The Indian Express, a senior police officer said that the hotel staff and Ankush deleted entries, falsified reports, provided fake checks and documents, and deceived the hotel by abusing its electronic system to avoid bill payment.

The hotel accused that the large-scale forgery and Ankush's bill forgery were to drain cash payments. Currently, a police investigation is underway.

The hotel, located near Delhi International Airport, is owned by Bird Hospitality India, Roseate House with 216 rooms opened in 2016 and claimed to be a contemporary luxury hotel. 

This hotel has several restaurants, luxurious spas, and co-working spaces. Rooms at Roseate House start from around 8,500 rupees per night.
