"Dream - The death of the only child of actress Tamara Tyasmara and DJ Angger Dimas due to drowning, was very shocking. At the time of the incident, the 6-year-old child was swimming in a public swimming pool."
At that time, the child was not accompanied by his father and mother, but by Tamara's trusted person. Until now, Tamara and her ex-husband, Angger Dimas, have not seen the CCTV footage of the incident.
The incident may trigger concerns for parents whose sons and daughters enjoy swimming, especially in public pools. The risk of drowning is always present, and safety becomes the main concern when children are swimming. Before taking children to the pool, it is important to inform them about safety, especially for those who are not yet proficient in swimming.
"Nearly 70% of drowning cases occur when children are not swimming. They may be playing by the poolside or sneaking around. We need to teach children that water can be dangerous, just like cars," said Tina Dessart, director of the Make a Splash program from the USA Swimming Foundation, which focuses on the importance of learning to swim."
According to Dessart, teach children not to approach the pool without adult supervision. Not only when inside the pool, but even sitting by the edge of the pool or when standing, they must still be supervised, because anything can happen.
"Parents must continue to instill this in their children," he said. Intensive supervision must also be carried out when the child is around the pool and when they are swimming. Do not rely solely on the supervisor, because sometimes their range of vision is too far. Another crucial and often underestimated thing is to avoid supervising children while they are swimming and playing with their mobile phones. Especially if the child cannot swim yet, whether it's in a small pool or play area."
"In a matter of seconds, anything can happen. The consequences can be very fatal, so do not be careless at all when supervising children in the swimming pool area, especially those who cannot swim."
It is important to know what a child in distress looks like in the water. Drowning children usually happen silently and very quickly, often when they are in a vertical position in the water with their heads facing backwards.
"Different from what is often seen in movies, a child rarely splashes, swings their arms, or screams for help. A child can drown not only when they can't swim, but also when their breathing is obstructed by water. Having their breathing obstructed by fluid makes it difficult for a child to control themselves, unable to breathe and drowning. It's not just being in the water, a child can also experience dry drowning or complications that can occur after drowning."
Children do not actually drown in water, but when they come to the surface, there are problems with their breathing. The symptoms that usually appear are shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, coughing, vomiting, excessive fatigue or drowsiness, and changes in behavior. If there are such symptoms, immediately take the child to the nearest emergency room for help. Source: Parents.
