One thing that toddlers love the most is playing with shiny objects like jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, or rings. The bright colors and beautiful shapes make them very curious.

Usually, to satisfy their curiosity with small and shiny objects, toddlers not only touch and play with them, but also lick and even swallow them. A painful experience was shared by Dr. Ariani Widodo on her Instagram @drariani. She showed an x-ray photo of one of her patients who swallowed a bracelet. The bracelet had a pearl pendant with a sharp hook at the end.

"Suddenly, my younger sibling swallowed this bracelet without being able to pull it out. Father quickly took them to @rsiabundajakarta. It can be seen in the x-ray photo that the bracelet is still in the stomach," he wrote in the Instagram post.

It is undeniable that the child's parents panicked. It is because the bracelet has sharp hooks. If left unattended, it can injure the intestines or other organs it passes through and can cause bleeding.

"The lower end forms a sharp hook, so it's quite worrying, afraid of piercing through the middle of the road and tearing the tissue or puncturing the intestine," said Dr. Ariani.

The doctor immediately took Endoscopy action to determine the precise location of the ring in the stomach. After obtaining sufficient visuals, luckily the ring was successfully removed.

"When viewed with an endoscope, it appears that the bracelet has tried to come out, but without success. The evidence? In the photo, the bracelet is located in the lower part of the stomach, and there is a fairly deep wound near the pylorus (the stomach's exit). It seems that the lower end got hooked in there," said Dr. Ariani. The bracelet was removed by gripping it with a tool. Special treatment is given for the internal wound caused by the sharp end."

Doctor Ariani advised, if you suspect that your child has swallowed a foreign object, do not delay in immediately taking them to the hospital. Do not let it have fatal consequences.
