"Dream - Coughing and colds are symptoms of a disease that often affects children. Parents usually immediately think that these complaints arise due to allergies, respiratory infections, or exposure to viruses and bacteria in the air."
In some children, cough and colds persist for a long time and do not seem to recover. It only subsides briefly, then within a few days it relapses, even in a worse condition.
Many things can be the cause. Many don't know that the condition can also be due to a hole in the child's baby tooth. This was explained by Dr. Miza Afrizal, a pediatric specialist. "Who here feels that their child always has a cough or a persistent cold? Even though it seems like all the food is being monitored, rarely going out, but why is the problem recurring? Maybe the problem lies in the teeth," said Dr. Miza.
He explained that if one study revealed that a child's teeth have cavities before the age of 3, it can increase the risk of repeated respiratory tract infections in children.
"The explanation is quite long, but the essence is that when there is tooth decay, there is a buildup of bacteria in the teeth. Well, those bacteria enter the child's respiratory tract periodically, causing Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) or recurrent cough and cold," said Dr. Miza. Not only that, Dr. Miza also explained that in children with cavities or tooth decay, the symptoms of cough and cold last longer than they should. "You already know that the symptoms of cough and cold in URTI last for about 14 days. Well, in children with cavities, it turns out that the cough and cold can last more than 14 days without recovering," he added.
With these risks, it is important for parents to maintain the dental health of their little ones since infancy. Dentist Annisa R. Amalia, a specialist in pediatric dentistry (Sp KGA), provides tips to prevent the emergence of cavities in baby teeth.
"The way to prevent it is very easy, starting from the first step which is cleaning the baby's mouth since birth. Well, by cleaning the child's mouth, this will stimulate and get them used to brushing their teeth," said Dr. Annisa. She also reminded that for children who are starting to grow teeth, they should use toothpaste with fluoride content. Simply use a grain of rice to clean the newly grown first tooth."
"The use of fluoride toothpaste is safe as long as it is used according to the age dosage of children," he said.
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The thing that is also very important is to visit a dentist when the child is one year old or at the latest six months after the first tooth grows. At this stage, the child's risk of cavities will be assessed. 'Cleaning and examination will be done, and cavity immunization will be administered if necessary,' the message said.
