"Dream - On weekends and when the children are at home or in their rooms and are not allowed to use gadgets, they usually complain of boredom. It's not just once or twice, but they keep throwing it out repeatedly."
That often makes parents feel dizzy, disturbed, and guilty. Facing a child's whining when bored, some parents usually immediately provide a solution.
Can by directly offering games or activities that can be done to eliminate boredom. Have mom and dad ever done it? According to Devi Sani, a psychologist, it is best not to do so. As much as possible, do not directly provide instant solutions to relieve boredom.
"Unconsciously, we may make children complain of being bored. Because, every time a child says that, it is immediately followed by enjoyable things from parents. Like giving them various entertainments or giving them gadgets," expressed Devi on her Instagram."
That apparently can make children think, "Oh, if I say I'm bored, mom/dad will immediately do something entertaining or give me a gadget." Don't let the child come to that conclusion.
That can be used by children as a 'weapon' to get what they want. Devi explained that there are two things that make children complain about being bored very often, namely when whining makes them more noticed or allowed to play with gadgets.
"Children's behavior becomes stronger when, after that behavior occurs, something enjoyable happens to them. They want to repeat their behavior," expressed Devi.
Let parents not make children always complain about being bored and make them look for other activities, just respond to the child neutrally when he complains about being bored. One of them is by responding "Yes, sometimes we do feel bored, it's okay to feel bored."
"Then, what if the child becomes fussy? Well, that means it's not really boredom that they feel, but rather a need for emotional connection that is missing. The child uses the word 'bored' because it is the quickest word to elicit a response from their parents or because it is the only word they know to express their emotions," expressed Devi.
