"Research data was gathered from menstrual cycle information from around 71 thousand girls who use iPhone and Apple Watch. From data analysis, it turns out that on average, girls born between 2000 and 2005 experience their first period at the age of 11.9 years."
This data is certainly very different from the first menstrual data of female children born between 1950 and 1969. Children born earlier usually experience their first menstruation at the age of 12.5 years.
In this study, it is also proven that Asians, black people, and multiracial individuals experience menstruation earlier compared to white people. It is also known that although they get their first menstruation earlier, these girls tend to have irregular menstrual cycles. It is important to note that irregular menstruation can have serious implications on reproductive health later in life.
"Factors Causing Early Menstruation in Children"
"Girls who experience menstruation at an earlier age indicate early puberty. This can be caused by several factors. One of the main factors that causes early puberty is overweight. In the United States, where the research was conducted, many children are obese, so experts suspect that this is related to early puberty."
In addition, there are several other external factors that cause a girl to experience menstruation earlier. Environment, consumed food, stress, and an unhappy childhood are also factors that accelerate menstruation.
Knowing the age at the first menstruation is very important. As previously explained, having an earlier menstruation may indicate certain health problems.
Therefore, experts are still continuing to study other factors and trying to prevent the emergence of this health problem. In the past two years, research has also noted that more girls are experiencing their first menstruation earlier compared to girls who can menstruate normally.
