Dream - Islam teaches its followers, especially wives, about the importance of seeking permission from their husbands. This is in order to achieve goodness, well-being, and honor within a family. According to Nyai Hj. Badriyah Fayumi, Lc, MA, who is the caretaker of Mahasna Darul Qur'an wal Hadits Islamic boarding school, permission from the husband is necessary if the wife's actions directly involve the husband's rights, mutual agreement, or the well-being of the family. Seeking permission from the husband is also necessary for a wife when she intends to perform religious practices in order to avoid committing sins.
"Even the teachings have also been explained in a hadith of the Prophet. What are the deeds that can bring sin when not seeking permission from the husband? Here is the explanation as summarized by Dream through various sources."
The following is a translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The following are some practices that a wife must seek her husband's permission beforehand to avoid bringing sin:"
The first practice is voluntary fasting. For example, fasting on Monday-Thursday. This practice is indeed recommended for Muslims. However, for married women, they must seek permission from their husbands first. This is because husbands have the right to enjoy the company of their wives and it is part of the voluntary acts. These voluntary acts can only be done if the husband is in the city.
However, if the husband is traveling, then the wife is allowed to fast because there is no invitation to have fun from her husband. It is different if the fasting is obligatory such as fasting in Ramadan, making a vow, and making up for missed fasts. In that case, there is no need to ask for permission from her husband. Additionally, if the wife wants to perform qadha fasts or replace missed fasts, she still needs to ask for permission from her husband. This is because fasting can still be postponed.
The next practice that requires permission from the husband is charity. Because a wife, when she wants to take anything out of her house, must first seek permission from her husband. Abu Umamah Al-Bahali said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in his sermon on the day of Hajjatu Al-Wada, saying: '(A wife) is not allowed to take anything out of her husband's house without his permission.' It was said to the Messenger of Allah, 'Even food?' He replied, 'It is the best of our possessions.'"
When a wife asks her husband for permission to give in charity, only then can she attain complete reward without reducing the reward of her husband. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "If a woman gives in charity from her husband's house, she will receive a reward similar to it. And for her husband, he will receive the same reward, and for the one who safeguards his wealth, each will not reduce the reward of the other. The husband will receive what he strives for, and the wife will receive what she has given in charity."
Intimate relations between husband and wife are the sunnah of the Prophet. However, when the wife refuses such invitation without a clear reason, it may bring sin. The Prophet Muhammad said, "By the life that is in His hand, there is no man who calls his wife to bed and she refuses except that the One in the heavens becomes angry with her (the wife) until her husband is pleased with her (the wife)."
Regarding the hadith above, Imam Nawawi said that menstruation is not a valid excuse to refuse intimacy, as the husband has the right to enjoy his wife's company on the upper part of her body. The Prophet also said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, a woman does not fulfill her Lord's rights until she fulfills her husband's rights. If he (the husband) asks for himself while she is on a short journey, she should not refuse."
Although so, the husband must also pay attention to the condition of his wife. Because in an Islamic household, coercion is prohibited. Because a good husband-wife relationship will create harmony.
