Dream - Broken bones usually occur in someone who has an accident or falls, causing serious trauma. However, an unusual incident happened to a man in China. He experienced a broken bone allegedly due to coughing. Doctors at the Second People's Hospital of Fujian Province in China recently reported a surprising case of a 35-year-old man named Ye, who suffered a broken thigh bone while coughing. It is known that the thigh bone is considered the second hardest bone in the human body.
Quoting Oddity Central, Director of the Orthopedic Department at the hospital, Dong Zhong, stated that this unusual incident occurred during a cough. Most patients in the age range of Ye usually experience a broken thigh bone due to serious trauma such as car accidents or falling from heights.
Ye told the doctor that he felt a sharp pain immediately after a strong cough. However, at that time, he only considered it as a cramp. After experiencing difficulty walking due to the pain, he decided to seek medical help.
The X-ray results show that Ye has a broken thigh bone. However, the story about coughing doesn't make sense and there are no signs of physical trauma. Zhong and his team have decided to further investigate, asking the patient about general health, eating habits, and lifestyle.
Not only that, they also conducted a bone density test that yielded disturbing results. Ye's bone density is similar to that of an 80-year-old man, and this is unusual, even for modern men who are not very active.
"Lifestyle Revealed"
After the test confirmed that Ye does not suffer from any bone disease, the doctor concluded that he has very fragile bones due to the habit of drinking soda, poor eating patterns, and lack of exercise.
Ye told the doctor that basically he replaced water with sweet carbonated drinks, which seemed to hinder his body from absorbing calcium properly. Thus, affecting his bone density.
"Cola-based drinks contain phosphoric acid that combines with calcium in normal food intake to form calcium phosphate after entering the body. The latter is more difficult to assimilate by the human body, so frequently consuming these drinks over a long period of time can have a negative impact on bone density."
Dr. Dong Zhong explained.
