A new species of snake was discovered in the southern region of Yunnan Province in China when the 2-foot long reptile was seen moving on top of a tree, catching the attention of visiting scientists.
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "This new species is named Pareas guanyinshanensis, also known as the Guanyinshan snail-eating snake. The snake has a long body, wide and blunt snout, and reddish-yellow or brownish-yellow color on its head with a pinkish-yellow color on the belly and tail."

This species is included in the "group of highly specialized snakes that only eat snails. They inhabit a wide range from Sundaland to northeastern India and southern China and have evolved into a large number of different species."
The scientists are conducting field research for four years starting in 2019. They plan to collect specimens similar to Parea hamptoni, another snail-eating snake species. However, the researchers soon discovered that the snakes they collected were a new species. The snakes were captured by hand at night, according to the research.
The researchers said the name of the snake was taken from the Guanyinshan Nature Reserve, the place where the snake was found. The photo of the snake included in the study shows its color as brown with black stripes.
