Born in Parepare, South Sulawesi on May 9, 1980, Fatmawati was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Makassar for the period 2021-2024, accompanying Danny Pomanto. According to Fatmawati, women in the past were still seen as objects of development. Nowadays, women must push themselves to become subjects of development amidst the lingering stigma and stereotypes as individuals with limitations.

"In each year, we build 1,000 tourism lanes and Alhamdulillah in the third year of our leadership, we have formed a group of women farmers (kwt) who are able to drive this tourism lane program," he said. The Tourism Lane program has proven to be able to improve the economy of housewives, as well as other sectors such as education, health, and stunting issues. "We intervene all SKPB to participate and through this tourism lane, we are able to address various issues starting from education programs, problems with children going to school, as well as in the field of health, clean living patterns, and other fields. This is also one of the answers to handling inflation in the city of Makassar," he explained.

Talking about female leaders, Fatmawati shared her experience of being a victim of gender discrimination while outside the city of Makassar. Discrimination still occurs due to the strong culture that underestimates the abilities of women. "With my vision and mission, I always do my best, wholeheartedly and with totality. So, I also see that this receives feedback from the community that apparently women are not limited, they are capable of doing what men do in various fields," she explained to Dream.

Berkiprah di dunia pemerintahan dan politik juga memiliki tantangan tersendiri bagi seorang perempuan. Meski tak dipungkiri masih ada stereotype soal hak kesetaraan gender, kader Partai Nasdem ini bersyukur semakin banyak ruang yang diberikan kepada perempuan di semua sektor. Sementara masalah di masyarakat yang masih menjadi tantangan dan perlu penanganan adalah kekerasan perempuan.
"Di bidang politik khususnya, keterwakilan perempuan 30 persen meskipun itu belum maksimal tapi pemerintah dan semuanya saling mendorong untuk bagaimana pemenuhan kuota 30 persen untuk perempuan," ujarnya.

Deciding to become a career woman, Fatmawati strives not to forget her role as a woman. She continues to fulfill her role as a mother and a supportive wife on a daily basis. Although it is acknowledged that juggling two roles simultaneously in the early stages of her life is quite challenging. Managing quality time becomes the solution to overcome the problem of dividing time between career and family. The advancement of modern technology also helps alleviate the constraints of juggling these two roles.
