Poor Performance
This is suspected after Benzema was insulted and became a scapegoat for Al Ittihad's poor performance. Benzema continuously faces criticism from Al Ittihad fans in Saudi Arabia for his appearance.
One popular insult received by Benzema is being labeled 'Ben Hazima' which means Son of Defeat. Fans appreciate Benzema less because of his introverted attitude as the striker seems to build a wall between himself and the public.
Before being fired, former Al Ittihad manager Nuno Espirito Santo had an argument with Benzema because he accused the striker of being lazy.
Defeated by Ronaldo
Quoted from Tribuna, fans of Al Ittihad never stop comparing Benzema with Cristiano Ronaldo who finished this year with 53 goals, the most among any player in the world.
Fans say Benzema only played with them, seemed uninterested and didn't offer much to his teammates who were already fed up with the 36-year-old player.
However, statistics show a different story. Benzema has played 20 matches this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. This puts his record close to a goal contribution per match. The main problem is that Al Ittihad is ranked 6th in the Saudi Pro League, 22 points behind the top. This has left fans heartbroken considering the club spent a lot of money to recruit top European players like Kante, Fabinho, and Benzema after winning the league last season. Despite being the club captain, Benzema is likely to be chosen as the scapegoat.
"Failed to Print Goal"
Al Ittihad lost 2-5 to Al Nassr in the postponed match of the 17th week held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Benzema failed to score in that match.
While his former teammate at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored two goals through penalties. Since that defeat, Benzema seemed to delete or temporarily suspend his Instagram account.
