Dream - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian explained the government's stance regarding Article 10 of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) Bill concerning the election of the DKJ governor. He emphasized that the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta are not directly elected or appointed by the president. Tito conveyed this statement during a meeting of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the DPR together with the Ministry of Home Affairs discussing the DKJ Bill on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
"First, the most crucial issue that we believe has become a public controversy regarding the issue of the election of the governor and deputy governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta," said Tito, quoted from Merdeka.com.
Election Not Appointed President
According to Tito, since the beginning the government has taken the stance that the governor of DKJ is elected in the regional election, not appointed by the president.
"The government's firm stance remains in the position of being chosen or unchanged according to what is currently implemented. Not appointed, once again. Because from the beginning, our government's stance and the content of the draft are the same, chosen not appointed."
