Dream - A military fan in China reported to the authorities after discovering that the used book he bought for 6 yuan (around Rp 14,000) from a recycling center actually contained classified military documents.
"The Military Secret Book Ends up in a Junkyard"
The Chinese Ministry of State Security recently praised the actions of the man, surnamed Zhang, through social media. Zhang reported to the authorities after buying military books from a recycling place, without knowing that those books contained state secrets.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Zhang called the emergency number to report the incident and then handed over the documents to the relevant authorities. The Ministry of Security praised Zhang's responsible actions and acknowledged that the situation could have become chaotic if the military secrets had fallen into the hands of an irresponsible person.
But how can such a secret end up in the public market, especially in a strict country like China? Zhang, who has a hobby of collecting military-themed newspapers and magazines, claimed that he has 'bought' the country's military secrets and brought them home. The Chinese Ministry of State Security shared this story on their social media and added, "If someone with malicious intent buys it, the consequences are unimaginable!"
Zhang is a retiree. While walking home, he saw two snake skin bags containing books at the place for collecting used paper.
Because of curiosity, he looked around and realized that some books were still in good condition and discussed military topics. He then asked the recycling center officer if he could buy them. The military enthusiast was reported to have paid only 6 yuan (about Rp14,000) for the four books.
However, recently Zhang realized that the books from the recycled paper place contain important state secrets.
Two Military Officers Involved.
After informing the authorities about the situation, a special team was deployed to the paper recycling facility to find out how the document could have ended up there. Further investigation revealed that two military personnel were supposed to destroy over 200 classified books.
However, they instead sold it to a paper recycling place for 20 yuan (around Rp30,000) as paper waste. Fortunately, the Chinese government managed to recover all of those books. They also closed the security loophole to prevent similar incidents from happening again. However, the fate of the two military personnel involved in the case is still unclear, whether they were punished or not.
