"Shin Hua, the Oldest Hair Salon in Indonesia"

"Established since 1911 in Surabaya."

Shin Hua, Oldest Hair Salon in Indonesia

"Dream - The oldest hair salon in Indonesia is apparently located at Jalan Kembang Jepun No 38, Surabaya, East Java."

"Has been standing since before Indonesia's independence, now the barbershop no longer serves customers. Even so, the room that was once crowded with male visitors still appears well-maintained as if it is still operating. In 2019, this hair salon was crowned as the oldest barbershop in Indonesia."

Being on the second floor, the tools in this oldest barber shop are still neatly arranged. Starting from the chairs, tables, mirrors, to the shaving equipment.

Freddy Kartono or Eddy turns out to be the second generation who becomes the successor of his father's barbershop business. Of his 13 siblings, only he was chosen to continue the business. Eddy has been helping his father manage the business since he was in junior high school. When he dropped out of high school, his father asked him to learn hair cutting in Malang City.

The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "This 74-year-old man still neatly keeps all shaving tools inherited from his father."

During its heyday, this shop could shave 125 heads every day.

The proliferation of barbershops and the many loyal customers who have passed away have made this hair salon empty.

Due to its current sick condition, this hair salon no longer accepts customers.

Besides being invited by President Jokowi, his name is also listed in a book titled "Peradaban Rambut Nusantara" written by his relatives.

"Unfortunately, out of Eddy's 10 children, none of them have intentions to continue the oldest barbershop business in Indonesia.\r\n\r\nSince it is no longer operational, this hair cutting place only remains as a memory of its glory, stored within the room along with hair cutting tools, and stories from its owner, Eddy."
