Dream - Deputy Regent of Mimika, Johannes Rettob, tells the story of his early involvement in local government. Previously, this man, who is familiarly called JR, was involved in the aviation industry for more than 20 years. John conveyed that when Mimika Regency was established as a definitive regency, he and his fellow colleagues who had migrated were asked to return to help the community in building Mimika Regency.
"And I agree to go back there, and then I served there, starting as a bureaucrat in the Mimika Regency government, at the Mimika Regency Transportation Agency," said Johannes when interviewed by the Dream Editorial team some time ago."
"Initially, Johannes, who at that time was a civil servant, never thought of getting involved in politics. However, due to pressure and support from various parties, including the community and supporting parties, he decided to run for the position of Deputy Regent of Mimika. 'But it turned out that there was quite a lot of pressure from the community, and at that time I was undecided. Then, I was asked by the current Regent to become his partner as Deputy Regent,' he said."
When he became the Head of the Region, John, who previously only thought about passenger safety in flights, now has to be alert in facing the problems and challenges of leading his region.
"tuturnya." translates to "he/she said."
John conveyed that when he directly engaged in the field, he often heard the grievances of the community. According to him, a regional leader, especially one who is difficult to reach like Mimika, must do it wholeheartedly. "So, the essence of all their grievances is only one, which is that they want the government to be present among them. If the government is present among them, surely everything they want can be answered," he said.
When returning to his hometown, John remembered the condition when he was still a child, which apparently still continues until now. Where the community still faces difficulties, especially in terms of transportation.

Until finally, together with the Ministry of Transportation and private parties, he began to build a pioneer aviation system to reach areas in Mimika. "Mimika Regency is approximately 21 thousand square kilometers in size, and there are 18 sub-districts, and all areas are accessible by air transportation," said John.
It also develops water transportation that originally had to rely on natural conditions and tides. Various canals and river deepening are now being developed so that they can be used as transportation routes for the community.
Not only that, John, who is committed to building from the village, also targets that all villages in Mimika must have lighting. "My target is that all villages must have light, and praise be to God, Alhamdulillah, that last year, out of 154 villages, maybe only 40 villages are still without light," he said. In addition, his concern is the health of the Mimika residents. He conveyed that Mimika Regency has basic health research conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and several other parties.
"Development that we must build so that this development is in harmony with health. A healthy person will definitely live a healthy life, study well, and automatically be intelligent. This is the principle that we must carry," he said.
In his remaining term, he wants to build healthy homes for the community and also clean water infrastructure to residents' homes. "First is the construction of healthy homes for the community during the remainder of our leadership. And hopefully, and the next is clean water, which is the most important for the community," he said. "And we target this year, at the end of the term, there must be 50 thousand clean water connections to homes," he said.
