Dream - Belief is a choice for everyone. It is not uncommon for someone to choose to change their beliefs because of guidance that can come from experience, knowledge, and environment. Guidance can come in various ways to every individual. One of them is through other people, as experienced by Arnita Rodelina Turnip, a beautiful girl from Simalungun, North Sumatra. She is an accomplished girl, accepted at IPB University in 2015 through the Regional Representative Scholarship (BUD) program.
When she was still a Christian, this beautiful girl hated Islam very much. However, in the end, she received guidance and decided to convert to Islam after thinking for seven days.
The text "kata Anita dalam tayangan Youtube Rukun Indonesia." translates to "Anita's words in the Youtube video Rukun Indonesia."
Before understanding and becoming a Muslimah, for Arnita, being a Muslim was too complicated because they had to worship five times a day. "I used to hate Islam so much, I was really frustrated. What's the point of praying five times a day? It just complicates things," she said. Arnita explained that she was born to a mother who was a Quran teacher and initially followed Islam. However, because her husband was a Christian, Arnita's mother followed her husband's religion. And so, Arnita was born and raised as a Christian.
Since childhood, he has been living alongside Islam. His siblings from his mother's side are mostly Muslims. During the month of Ramadan, he often participates in sahur (pre-dawn meal before fasting) but eats during the day. When it is time to break the fast, he eats together with others.
By her parents, Arnita was educated in a Catholic high school. In school, she learned a lot about her religion, which led to a feeling of hatred towards Islam.
Graduating from Catholic High School, Arnita continued her studies at IPB University through the BUD program. This campus requires first-year students to live in dormitories, including Arnita. "So, in the dormitory, the attire is indeed Muslim attire, covered for those who are Muslim," she added.
While in Arnita's imagination, studying in Java is like being in television shows where they wear short skirts. She was shocked when she was reprimanded by a security officer for wearing a short skirt and a tank top when entering the dormitory. Arnita, who is a devout girl in her religion, shares a room with a Muslim girl who is equally devout.
His Muslim friend often performs Tahajud prayer, diligently reads the Quran while waiting for the dawn prayer time.
Once upon a time, Arnita suggested that her friend read the Quran without sound. "Then I said, can't you just read it silently," she said. "He said he couldn't. Reading the Quran must be recited, so we know which pronunciation is correct or wrong," she added. Still annoyed, the next day Arnita read the Bible out loud. "Then she said, what's the point. Hey, I also read a book, is it not allowed? You can do it," she said.
Finally, a commotion occurred. So the older sister who was a dormitory companion came to separate them. Arnita felt embarrassed and finally apologized. She became interested in Islam while watching Zakir Naik, who often received questions from various religions and answered them with the Quran.
Since then, questions arose in Arnita's mind and she felt something was bothering her about her religious teachings. In her Christian religious class, Arnita asked her assistant brother, "Brother, in this chapter it is said that we are not allowed to eat forbidden food and drink intoxicating drinks, but why do we drink and eat pork?"
The older sister assistant answered, "You have to believe in who Christ is. You have to learn more (study) even more. If your faith becomes stronger, then you will believe." However, Arnita felt unsatisfied with her older sister's answer. So, she searched for answers from various sources that she could find. Until finally, she found an answer from a lecture video by Ustaz Abdul Somad.
From there the interest in Islam emerged. Arnita then came to the Al-Hurriyyah IPB Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) to be guided in reciting the two sentences of the shahada. By one of the ustaz, Arnita asked to come back the next day.
The news of Arnita's conversion from Christianity to Islam instantly spread throughout IPB, including being heard by her seniors. She was even tempted to not convert by her seniors. "I was called by my seniors, hoping that I wouldn't make the declaration on Saturday. I was supposed to make the declaration on Saturday, but it ended up being on Monday. I still remember the date, September 20, 2015," she said. Arnita was asked by her seniors about the reason for her conversion to Islam. "I said, it's not because of anyone, not because of marriage," Arnita said.
Finally, Arnita's senior sister gave up. Arnita also embraced Islam by reciting the two sentences of shahada. Until now, she still holds firmly to the teachings of Islam, and even becomes more convinced with Islam.
