"Wow, New Species of Stegosaurus Discovered in China"
"Let's check out the complete facts!"
"Let's check out the complete facts!"
The paleontologists have announced the discovery of a Stegosaurus species in a new paper published in the Journal of Historical Biology on January 31, 2024. The region in China is famous for frequent discoveries, including this dinosaur species. Stegosaurus is a new species of dinosaur found in the area now known as China. Therefore, the new dinosaur species discovered by these paleontologists is the Stegosaurus found in China.
Stegosaurus is a group of herbivorous dinosaurs that have a layer of protective armor shaped like steel and lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This dinosaur has physical characteristics that include four legs, with a body length of up to 9 meters or equivalent to 30 feet. Its head is relatively small, equipped with wedge-shaped teeth. One of its distinctive features is the vertical bone plates and protruding spines on its back and tail. In addition, Stegosaurus also has toe-like claws on all four limbs.
According to research by Dr. Lei Jia from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Stegosaurus is one of the famous types of ornithischian dinosaurs, despite its small size. Stegosaurus is believed to have lived from the Middle Jurassic period to the Early Cretaceous period. However, in the context of the Cretaceous period, the existence of Stegosaurus is less known. Prior to the research conducted by paleontologists, there were only four valid taxa known from the Cretaceous period, namely Paranthodon, Wuerhosaurus homheni, Wuerhosaurus ordosensis, and Mongolostegus exspectabilis.
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The remains of Stegosaurus fossils were collected from the Zuoyun Formation in Zuoyun County, Shanxi Province, China. This new specimen from the Cretaceous period is named Yanbeilong ultimus and is believed to have lived approximately 100 to 113 million years ago. Paleontologists who discovered these fossils state that Yanbeilong ultimus is the latest record of the stegosaurus group worldwide."
