Hidden Gems Hong Kong: Tsz Shan Monastery

"Dream - Tsz Shan Monastery is one of the hidden gems in Hong Kong that you must visit, my Dream friends."

This is a Tang Dynasty-style Buddha temple that has the second largest statue of Goddess Guan Yin in the world, as well as three golden Buddha statues. Tsz Shan Monastery is located on the hill of Tai Po, Hong Kong. Its exact address is 88 Universal Gate Rd, Tai Po. The construction of this temple took five years, starting from 2003. It was opened to the public in 2015.

Tsz Shan Monastery was born from the idea of Asia's richest man, Li Ka Shing. Li donated Rp2.5 trillion from his personal funds for the construction of the temple. The temple, which is the size of nine football fields, is equipped with a statue of the Goddess Guan Yin or Kwan Yam, who is the goddess of mercy in Buddhism. The statue, standing at a height of 76 meters, is said to be the second tallest statue of the Goddess Guan Yin in the world.

Tsz Shan Monastery also has several large halls. In one of the halls, there are three Buddha statues made of 24 karat gold. Each hall will be used as a place for meditation and learning about Buddha.

The temple building uses three core primary colors: brown, gray, and white, which are in harmony with the teachings of Buddha. Interestingly, the stairs also have differences in size and height, which symbolize a person's journey in learning religion and belief. Here, there is also a third-generation 'holy body tree' and the existence of one of the three ashrams whose windows are bulletproof. Its function, of course, is to provide protection for the Buddhist leaders who come from various parts of the world.
