"Dream - The Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center (PPATK) stated that the online gambling money circulation from 2017 to 2023 amounted to Rp517 trillion. About 63 percent of that figure, or Rp327 trillion, occurred throughout 2023."
"The amount already covers 63 percent of the total accumulation of funds amounting to Rp517 trillion since 2017," said Ivan Yustiavandana, Head of PPATK, quoted from Liputan6.com, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. According to him, the hundreds of trillions figure is obtained from the accumulation of transactions carried out by online gambling players."
"ujar Ivan Yustiavandana." translates to "said Ivan Yustiavandana."
From the total turnover of funds, PPATK found 3,295,310 people who played online gambling and made deposits on online gambling sites amounting to Rp 34,512,310,353,834 or Rp 34 trillion.
"\u201cIf we total the findings of online gambling in 2023 with the findings of online gambling in previous years, the figure is more than Rp 517 trillion. This shows how massive online gambling activities are in our society,\u201d said Ivan."
"Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) since September 2023 has ordered banks to block more than 85 accounts suspected to be related to illegal online loans and more than 4,000 accounts suspected to be related to online gambling. The blocking is done to limit the perpetrators' movement through the banking system."
"OJK also requested banks to enhance customer due diligence (CDD) and Enhanced due diligence (EDD) to identify customers or prospective customers who are on the list of online gambling or other criminal activities through banking," said the Executive Director of Banking Supervision (KEPP) OJK, Dian Ediana Rae, last November.
OJK also requests banks to develop a system capable of profiling online gambling behavior, so that it can early detect online gambling activities and block them independently.
