Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has inaugurated the Karian Dam and Water Treatment Installation (IPA) Sitanala with a capacity of 500 liters per second in Lebak Regency, Banten. Jokowi said that the newly inaugurated Karian Dam is one of the largest dams in Indonesia that can meet the raw water needs of the community.
"Bendungan Karian" translates to "Karian Dam" in English.
"Not only for the province of Banten, the dam can also fulfill the water needs in Jakarta and Bogor Regency."
"Karian Dam will also be able to fulfill the raw water needs of 10.6 cubic meters per second for the community in Serang Regency, Serang City, Cilegon Regency, Lebak Regency, Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City, and Tangerang City, as well as in western Jakarta and Bogor Regency," said Jokowi as quoted from the Setkab website, Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Jokowi explained, Karian Dam has a water storage capacity of up to 315 million cubic meters with a water surface area of 1,773 hectares. With these specifications, the dam is able to provide irrigation benefits.
"This will provide benefits to the community in Banten Province as well as in DKI Jakarta and a small part in West Java Province. First, this dam will provide irrigation benefits for 22 thousand hectares of rice fields," said Jokowi."
Jokowi said that the Karian Dam has been built since 2015, with a budget of Rp2.2 trillion.
"He believes that the dam is not only a source of water but also has benefits as a flood controller, especially in Serang Regency and Rangkasbitung District. "The fourth, this dam also functions as a microhydro power plant that generates 1.8 megawatts of electricity," said the president."
