"Layoffs at Apple are recorded in the submission of the state of California. This marks the first significant round of layoffs for the technology company since the pandemic. According to CNBC International, it is indicated that Apple employees affected by the layoffs are those who work in 8 different facilities in Santa Clara."

The workers were notified about the layoff on March 28th and the changes will take effect on May 27th. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, positions affected by this layoff policy include machine shop managers, hardware engineers, and product design engineers.

The submission of the layoff was made several weeks after Apple canceled a long-term project to create a driverless electric car in a team called the Special Projects Group. Although the notice in California did not mention specific projects that would reduce employment opportunities, none of the locations in the submission were at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, but rather at smaller satellite offices that likely housed secret initiatives.

"Previously, another technology giant, Amazon, has also carried out layoffs on hundreds of employees in physical technology stores as well as sales and marketing units, in the cloud computing unit (AWS). The previously profitable AWS Amazon unit has recently experienced a slowdown in sales growth over the past few quarters due to several companies cutting their cloud spending amidst rising interest rates."
