Business operators in the food and beverage industry in Indonesia are indeed required to have a halal certificate starting from October 17, 2024.
This collaboration is marked by the signing of an MoU on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Executive Director of Shopee Indonesia, Handhika Jahja, explained that the collaboration was established to support the government's program. In this case, Shopee will provide convenience to MSME partners in obtaining halal certification.
"This becomes one of the ways in which it can help the program, of course, support the government in the halal movement. We hope that this facility will help SMEs obtain halal certification,"

For SMEs who want to register for halal certification, they can do so through the seller center of Shopee. This feature has started operating on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Therefore, sellers can immediately register for the halal certification.
"We hope that with Shopee's facilities, it will help facilitate SMEs in obtaining halal certification. We hope that this will also help them ensure that their products are more trustworthy and guaranteed, especially during this Ramadan month."

Head of BPJPH, Muhammad Aqil Irham also stated that this collaboration will provide convenience for business actors to easily obtain halal certification.
"This certainly adds to the list of companies that have a strong commitment to halal products and strengthens and expands the halal industry ecosystem. And of course, the most fundamental thing is that UMKM actors have a very significant contribution to the Indonesian economy,"

Aqil explains that mandatory halal actually targets only two groups, namely consumers and producers. According to him, consumers have the right to protection in order to feel safe in consuming products that have been confirmed as halal.
"So consumers feel at ease, it is also part of the implementation of the Consumer Protection Law," added Aqil. Secondly, as for producers, Aqil believes that halal is not only about religion. But for halal business practitioners, it has become a mandatory value and culture when they develop their business in the processed product sector. "So this is important, halal can increase the added value for their products," explained Aqil."
