Dream - The National Zakat Amil Body (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia states that it will no longer accept donations from McDonald's Indonesia for assistance to the mustahik.
Apart from the mustahik, BAZNAS will also not accept assistance from McDonald's Indonesia for Gaza, Palestine.
The decision was made by BAZNAS as an evaluation after hearing input and concerns from the community that recently occurred. This step also follows the direction of the Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Prof. Dr. Noor Achmad, MA.
"By carefully considering the criticism and rejection from various elements of society regarding the assistance received by BAZNAS from McDonald's for Palestine, BAZNAS has decided to take this step,"
The Deputy I of BAZNAS RI in the Field of Collection, M. Arifin Purwakananta, stated in his press release.
Until now, BAZNAS along with MUI continues to distribute alms from the Indonesian community for assistance to the Gaza community, Palestine. The assistance received by BAZNAS has been distributed to those in need.
In its distribution, BAZNAS has collaborated with three major philanthropic institutions from Egypt, namely Mishr Al-Kheir, Bayt Zakat Wa As-Shadaqat, and Egyptian Red Crescent Society (ERCS), to facilitate the distribution of aid to Gaza, Palestine.
Until now, the total value of assistance distribution that has been distributed by BAZNAS has reached Rp 43.1 billion, 56.7 tons of natural resources, with a total of 177,881 beneficiaries of Palestinian citizens. The number is expected to continue to increase as the distribution of assistance is still ongoing. "Currently, BAZNAS RI, together with the Indonesian Government and the Jordanian authorities, has sent assistance to Gaza Palestine through air routes," said Arifin.
BAZNAS RI also continues to coordinate with the government, including the TNI, MUI, and various parties in assisting the victims of genocide in Gaza, Palestine. Donations received by BAZNAS RI so far come from the Indonesian community, various zakat collecting institutions (LAZ), BAZNAS at the provincial/district/city level, corporate donations, individual donations, schools, and assisted by fundraising from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI).
Meanwhile, until April 3, 2024, BAZNAS has sent aid to Palestine nine times with the following details: November 4, 2023, totaling 51.5 tons, November 20, 2023, totaling 21.7 tons, January 18, 2024, totaling 60 tons, December 4, 2023, totaling 6 container trucks, December 18, 2024, totaling 10 container trucks, December 28, 2023, totaling 3 container trucks, February 19, 2024, totaling 14 container trucks, and 40 container trucks divided into two aid trips.
"Previously, it was known that the McDonald's headquarters in the United States has decided to repurchase all franchises operating in Israel. McDonald's will buy 225 branches from Alyonyal Ltd, which is the owner of the McDonald's franchise in Israel. McDonald's made that decision after receiving criticism because Alonyal started distributing thousands of free meals to the Israeli army. Sales in that area have declined since the conflict began in October."
