Dream - Indonesian Vice President for the periods of 2004-2009 and 2014-2019, Jusuf Kalla (JK), assessed that the issue discussed in the Third Presidential Debate 2024 regarding the purchase of main weapon systems (alutsista) focuses heavily on its price. According to JK, the price of purchasing used aircraft that are known to be 25 years old is excessively high. He stated that the previous government also purchased used alutsista but at a much cheaper price compared to the current situation.
"I think the government will not only buy used military equipment this time, but always at a cheap price. Used goods are actually very cheap, especially when they are already old," said JK quoted from Liputan6.com, Thursday, January 11, 2024."
He said, a used aircraft unit aged 25 years is priced at Rp1 trillion. "Actually, it's not just used, how much is the price for used? That's a different thing. If this is the average price of Rp1 trillion for one aircraft, an aircraft that is 25 years old," he said.
In the purchase of an aircraft, according to the Vice President who has been a partner of two different presidents, the government will measure it from the perspective of age and flight hours. "If it's a new purchase, then it will definitely have new technology. Besides that, how many flight hours does it have, there are regulations for flying aircraft, that's what matters," he said.
"Previously in the 2024 Presidential Debate. Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, considered the purchase of used military equipment not to be the right decision. Moreover, Anies claimed that the budget for it came from debt."
"We use our debts for productive activities, don't use debts for non-productive activities. For example, using debt to buy used military equipment by the Ministry of Defense is not something appropriate. Instead, we should do the opposite," said Anies in a debate at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, January 7, 2024."
"So indeed all the transactions have increased. For example, earlier the transaction was only Rp1 billion, suddenly it became Rp10 billion, Rp100 million suddenly became Rp2 billion," said Ivan.
