Dream - The modus operandi of fraud through WhatsApp is becoming increasingly diverse. Usually, scammers will send an APK (Application Package File) and persuade WhatsApp users to open it.
The Directorate General of Taxes (Ditjen Pajak) of the Ministry of Finance also conveyed a scam modus operandi in the form of an annual notification letter (SPT) with an APK file through the WhatsApp application, which is widely complained by taxpayers.
Therefore, the Directorate General of Taxes asks the public to be cautious of the mode of fraud in tax collection.
The Director of Counseling, Services, and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxes, Dwi Astuti, stated that they have never sent any files related to tax collection or tax returns in the form of an APK file through WhatsApp service.
The tax bill and official tax return (SPT) are officially sent by the Tax Directorate General through email using the official address.
"We, DJP, never send files, let alone apk, and our official domain (email) is pajak.go.id," said Dwi quoted from Merdeka.com, Thursday, February 29, 2024."
"He ensures that if the public receives information regarding tax bills or annual tax returns in the form of an APK file through WhatsApp, it is a form of fraud. 'As for the APK that requests tax billing, you have to pay a certain amount, I beg you, it is definitely a scam,' Dwi emphasized."
"For further information regarding tax collection and annual tax returns, taxpayers can contact the nearest tax office or access the official website of the Directorate General of Taxes."
"So, the public must be cautious if there is an apk WhatsApp, email that is not from the domain pajak.go.id, do not respond to it," he concluded.
