Dream - Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas/NFA), Arief Prasetyo Adi, conveyed that the rising price of rice will decrease during the month of Ramadan in 2024.
"Automatically (rice prices go down)," said Arief quoted from Liputan6.com, Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Arief explained, the decrease in rice prices followed the harvest season and the realization of rice imports reaching 500,000 tons that the government carried out in 2023.
Although, Arief did not mention how much the price of medium and premium quality rice will decrease during the upcoming Ramadan month. He also did not mention the location of the abundant rice production center.
"On the other hand, the decrease in the price of rice is also followed by a decrease in the price of paddy at the farmer level, which ranges from Rp8,000 per kilogram to Rp6,000 to Rp7,000 per kilogram."
Arief mentioned that the decrease in rice prices at the farmer level is a consequence of returning rice prices to match consumer demand at the downstream level.
"So, on the contrary, what needs to be preserved is the price at the farmer level. But, later on, friends must convey that when the price of rice is Rp8,000 and returns to the range of Rp65 to Rp7,000, it is not a price drop, it's not, because those downstream want the price to be in accordance with the Highest Retail Price (HET) of around Rp14,000," he explained.
"Previously, the price of rice experienced an increase ahead of this year's holy month of Ramadan. According to data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PHPS), on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the price of rice is still above the reference price. The average national price for medium rice is around Rp15,250 per kilogram (kg). Meanwhile, premium rice is priced at Rp16,600 per kg."
Padahal harga eceran tertinggi atau HET beras medium adalah dikisaran Rp10.900 per kg. Sementara itu, HET beras Premium dipatok Rp14.800 per kg.
