"Dream - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) ensures that it has made various efforts to manage and maximize job opportunities abroad. This was conveyed by the Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, during the International Migrants Day 2023 event held in East Lampung, Monday, December 18, 2023."
In addition to providing better services, various efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) also aim to serve as a form of the state's presence in providing protection to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
"We make various efforts as a form of the government's presence in providing placement and protection services for Indonesian Migrant Workers because working, both domestically and abroad, is a fundamental human right that must be upheld, respected, and enforced as mandated in the 1945 Constitution," said the Minister of Manpower in his statement quoted on Thursday, December 21, 2023."
According to Ida, among the efforts made by the Ministry of Manpower is to maximize the role of labor attachés currently spread across 11 placement countries. The Ministry of Manpower is also actively providing competency certification, or in other words, upskilling for high school graduates or equivalent. Another effort is the massification of socialization about procedural ways of working abroad.
In addition, Kemnaker has also formed 25 Task Forces for Indonesian Migrant Workers in debarkation/embarkation areas and pocket areas of Indonesian Migrant Workers. Then, it forms 503 Productive Migrant Villages (desmigratif) in pocket villages of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
The Minister stated that these steps are continuously being pursued considering the many challenges that need to be responded to by the government. The first challenge is that 54 percent of job seekers going abroad have an education level of junior high school and below.
The second signature is that 61 percent of the total placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) is still dominated by women working for individual employers, namely caregivers and housemaids.
Third, the high number of PMI departures without proper procedure is still a problem. Out of 1,918 complaints as of November 2023, 1,553 (81%) of them are unprocedural complaints.
