Dream - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reported that the voting stage in the General Election (Pemilu) 2024 has caused 27 cases of death among the Election Organizer Group (KPPS) officers. Various cases were found in several regions including Central Java, West Java, East Java, Banten, and DKI Jakarta.

"Until now, there have been 27 reported cases of death," said Head of the Communication and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, quoted from Liputan6.com."

Based on the data collected until Friday, at 14.00 WIB, there were nine cases of death, including deaths related to heart disease.

It is also reported that the death of KPPS officers in the 2024 Election was caused by four diseases resulting from accidents, two cases of septic shock infection, two deaths not caused by comorbidity, one case of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and one other case due to hypertension. Meanwhile, eight other cases of death of KPPS officers died while being transported to the hospital (death on arrival) and are currently being confirmed.

Compensation for Deceased KPPS

The General Election Commission (KPU) stated that the deceased KPPS officers will be given compensation of Rp36 million in accordance with KPU Decision Number 59 of 2023, which will be provided to the heirs.

The Chairman of the Bogor District Election Commission, Muhammad Adi Kurnia, revealed that they are currently still waiting for the heirs of the KPPS family who are preparing the requirements for disbursement. "The paperwork for the application for compensation is being prepared by the heirs," said Adi as quoted from Merdeka.com.

"He explained that the heirs of new KPPS members will only receive compensation after 40 working days from the submission. \u201cThere are already regulations, because the budget is from the General Election Commission of Indonesia, it takes 40 days for the victim's family to receive it,\u201d he said."

Other Assistance

Learn from the 2019 Election in which many KPPS officers died, the Indonesian Election Commission (KPU RI) issued KPU Decision Number 59 of A2023 which regulates the provision of compensation for KPPS officers who died or were injured while on duty.

Apart from providing assistance for the deceased, the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU RI) also provides assistance of Rp16 million for victims with severe injuries, Rp30 million for permanent disabilities, Rp10 million for funeral expenses, and Rp8 million for victims with moderate injuries.
