Dream - Secretary General of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Market Traders Association (IKAPPI), Reynaldi Sarijowan, revealed that the current increase in rice prices has reached a record high. The increase applies to both medium and premium rice.
Reynaldi recorded that the price of medium rice is sold at Rp13,500 per kilogram, while premium rice reaches Rp18,500 per kg.

Apart from experiencing price increases, supplies of medium and premium rice are also starting to become scarce in traditional markets. This condition has caused the price of rice to become increasingly expensive.
Reynaldi mentioned that the increase and scarcity of rice are caused by the government's inaccurate data on rice supply for social assistance (Bansos) activities and general public consumption.
The situation is getting worse with the government's unpreparedness in facing the El Nino storm. In the future, IKAPPI asks the government to be cautious of the surge in rice prices and the difficulty in obtaining supplies in the traditional market that is still ongoing. Considering that this condition can harm the community as consumers due to weakened purchasing power.

Several other food items have also experienced significant increases in the past week. It is even noted that in some areas in East Indonesia, premium rice is sold at Rp 25-36 thousand per kg.
