"Dream - Japan Airlines (JAL) estimates operational losses after a plane caught fire at Haneda Airport, Tokyo, reaching 15 billion yen or around Rp1.6 trillion. The Japan Airlines plane caught fire after colliding with a Coast Guard aircraft on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. All cabin crew and passengers totaling 379 people survived, while five crew members of the Coast Guard aircraft, which collided with the Japan Airlines plane, died. The captain of the plane survived."
The translation of "Kerugian Ditanggung Asuransi" to English is "Losses Covered by Insurance".
"On Thursday, January 4, 2024, the company stated that the aircraft losses would be covered by insurance."
The national airline of Japan added that they are analyzing the impact of the incident on revenue that ends on March 31.
"This airline is also discussing individual compensation with the passengers, two of whom had pets that died in the incident."
According to Channel News Asia, industry sources say that the American insurance company, AIG, is the primary insurer for all policies worth US$130 million, for the two-year-old aircraft that was destroyed in the fire. However, AIG declined to comment.
According to Aviation Safety Network, this is the first global loss for the Airbus A350 aircraft type. The aircraft, which is largely made of carbon composites, began commercial operations in 2015.
"When the collision occurred, the crew took 18 minutes to evacuate everyone from the aircraft and land safely. A JAL spokesperson said that most of the passengers were Japanese, with 43 foreigners confirmed to be citizens of Australia, Sweden, Hong Kong, China, and South Korea."
"In the NHK television broadcast, debris from the aircraft was still scattered around the runway on Thursday. Several officials, seen wearing masks, gloves, and protective helmets, were inspecting the debris."
