Dream - For many people, drinking coffee helps them stay awake and motivated to complete tasks. Studies show that drinking coffee can help prolong life and reduce the risk of stroke if consumed one cup per day.
"Unfortunately, if the way of consuming coffee is not correct, these benefits will not be felt. Here are four proper ways to drink coffee so that its benefits are maximized for the body."
1. Reduce Creamer
One common mistake when making coffee is adding too much creamer. "If you like the original taste of coffee, remember not to add too much creamer," said nutrition expert, Maryan Walsh. It is recommended to measure the amount of creamer used, make sure it is only a little.
2. Set Sugar Usage
"The use of natural sugar is not a problem as long as it is in moderate amounts. I always suggest measuring the amount of sugar used, or using packaged sugar with a known weight," said Walsh. According to the Ministry of Health of Indonesia, the recommended limit for sugar consumption is a maximum of 50 grams or 4 tablespoons of sugar per day."
3. Choose Low-Calorie Sweeteners
In an effort to maintain health without sacrificing the pleasure of drinking coffee, choosing low-calorie natural sweeteners is a wise choice. One of the recommended sweeteners is stevia. "Choosing low-calorie natural sweeteners, such as stevia which is currently available in many coffee shops, is a better way to sweeten coffee without adding excessive sugar and calories," suggests Walsh.
4. Do Not Drink Coffee on an Empty Stomach
Research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America in 2017 found that the bitter taste in coffee can signal the body to produce more stomach acid. "Sometimes the acidity of coffee can upset the stomach if consumed on an empty stomach," said nutrition expert Kelsey Lloyd.
