Actually, this statement is not entirely true or false. The sugar that can have a negative impact on health is added sugar with a sweeter taste.

The author of the book 'Lean Habits for Lifelong Weight Loss', Georgie Fear, states that natural sugar in whole fruits or pure milk contains vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that can balance the negative aspects of added sugar. For example, the fiber in fruits can help the body absorb sugar for a longer period, maintaining insulin levels and preventing easy hunger.

Sugar does not always disturb health conditions. The body has an ideal sugar level that is safe to consume every day, which is 12.5 teaspoons or 50 grams per 2000 calories for adults according to the dietary guidelines in the United States.

"While the American Heart Association actually recommends women to consume 6 teaspoons or 25 grams per day, men are allowed to consume more sugar with a limit of 9 teaspoons or 36 grams per day. In the end, it all comes down to the limit of consumption. It doesn't mean you have to completely stop consuming sugar, though!"

The statement should not be interpreted literally. This is because heart disease, Alzheimer's, or cancer can only be experienced when there is excessive sugar consumption. Research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also states that the consumption of additional sugar is not related to the risk of death, as long as it is not consumed excessively.
