To commemorate National Batik Day 2023, Shopee held a special event entitled "Contemporary Batik Stories". Well, at this event, a renowned Indonesian fashion designer named Didiet Maulana was present. In his presence on this occasion, Didiet Maulana expressed his surprise and admiration after knowing the achievements that have been made by batik sellers in the homeland.
"Indeed, as a fashion designer from Indonesia, one of my aspirations is to spread batik as a cultural heritage of the Nusantara region and make it an important element in the development of global fashion trends. In fact, this has also been done by fellow MSME activists in the homeland who utilize digital technology through Shopee," said Didiet.
Monica Vionna, Head of Marketing Growth Shopee Indonesia, confirms that sales of batik have indeed increased from year to year. "Based on the data we have, the sales of batik are increasing as time goes by, not only depending on certain moments. In just this year alone, in 2023, millions of local fashion batik products created by our local SME partners have been successfully sold on Shopee, even overseas," explained Monica.
Didiet also added that batik indeed continues to experience development both in terms of motifs and styling.

The fashion designer explained several modern motifs that have become trends in the world of batik fashion. "One of the popular motifs is abstract motifs that combine various geometric elements and non-traditional shapes. This motif gives a more contemporary impression and is suitable for everyday style. In addition, floral motifs with bright colors are also an interesting choice to appear fresher and more enthusiastic, like those owned by this Damakara batik," said the founder of IKAT Indonesia.
One of the UMKM actors present at the Cerita Batik Masa Kini event is Dini Prihastiti, the owner of the Damakara brand. Damakara is an original brand from Bandung that is one of the batik sellers who has successfully developed their business through the Shopee marketplace platform.
"Jadi saya dan suami saya Bheben, bangun Damakara itu di tahun 2019, terinspirasi dari Iris Grace, anak berkebutuhan khusus yang mengekspresikan diri lewat painting dan hasil lukisannya dinilai bagus oleh kurator, terinspirasi dari hal tersebut kita pun bekerja sama membuat produk berkolaborasi dengan anak berkebutuhan khusus. Kemudian tahun 2020, usaha yang baru kita dirikan ini cukup tersendat, karena pandemi. Akhirnya kita coba untuk go digital lewat Shopee, dan alhamdulillah sampai sekarang masih eksis dan berkembang terus," ungkap Dhini."

After entering the world of e-commerce, Dhini said that Damakara's market share has become wider and can even cover the entire Indonesia and even abroad. Not only that, the brand built by Dhini and Bheben Oscar has even been sold to Malaysia, Singapore, and even Taiwan.
