A study was conducted involving 247,000 individuals collected between 2006 and 2010 for the UK Biobank, a comprehensive biomedical database. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between poor sleep quality, dietary patterns, and the development of type 2 diabetes. The results found no association between a healthy eating pattern and a decrease in the risk of type 2 diabetes in participants who slept less than six hours per day. These findings emphasize that maintaining health involves more than just diet and exercise. Sleep, healthy eating patterns, and exercise together form an important foundation for body health and fitness.
Apart from type 2 diabetes, lack of sleep quality can also result in daytime functional disturbances that potentially decrease academic performance, cause conflicts and errors in the workplace, or present difficulties in mental health. Various diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and central nervous system disorders have been associated with lack of sleep quality.
In this world, only about 1 to 2% of the population is genetically capable of functioning with less sleep. On the contrary, every person requires an adequate amount of sleep every day. Considering the importance of sleep for overall health, it is highly recommended for every individual to establish and adhere to their own healthy sleep routine.
