Dream - Anime fans usually love to gather with communities to exchange information and collections. One of the events that usually becomes a gathering place for anime fan communities is anime exhibition.
On May 5, 2024, yesterday Anime Festival Asia (AFA) was finally held in Indonesia after a hiatus of 5 years. AFA itself is held in various cities and countries, such as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
In Indonesia itself, the first Anime Festival Asia was held in 2012. AFA Indonesia (ID) was then last held in 2018, as the organizers planned to take a hiatus for 2 years in order to make some minor changes.
"To become the largest J-Culture festival in Indonesia, AFA presents a variety of content and activities. So it's not just about concerts, exhibitions, or cosplay, but AFA has many integrations from each content. In AFA ID 2024, there are about 95 booths or creator hub areas, which are one form of incubator."
“This is because AFA aims to curate and provide a place and platform for creators who indeed have talent and excellent works to be showcased,” said Harry Sudarma, Co-Founder and COO of PK Entertainment, on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Around 250 people, including artists, crew, and creators from 30-40% of Southeast Asia, were involved in this event. There were creators who came from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia. Exhibitors were not only from the local area, but there were also exhibitors from Singapore and Japan who came to showcase their products and provide a platform for fans to access their products more closely.
"By the return of AFA, we hope to reintroduce and remind our market in Indonesia that this J-Culture festival is something truly extraordinary and hopefully it can grow even bigger and attract a larger crowd," said Harry.
The organization of AFA in 2024 will be the 8th edition held in Indonesia. With the venue located at Exhibition Hall A, Jakarta Convention Center, this event will take place from 3-4 May.
On the first and second day, AFA ID successfully attracted a lot of audiences, ranging from J-Culture fans to the general public, to come and experience the excitement. "This is my first AFAID, it's really cool and the vibes are great. Usually, small anime events are only held in malls, but this is truly a big annual event that is back after five years. So finally, I went to AFAID after five years of absence. Hopefully, AFAID can be held regularly again like in previous years," said Icha (29), one of the visitors to AFAID on the third day.
Interest in the community on the 3rd day to come to AFAID has not decreased. This is because there are many exciting activities that can be done. Want to learn how to assemble gundam and bring home a free gundam? There is a gundam assembly workshop at the Bandai Namco booth.
Simply by filling out the survey and registering, you can immediately participate in workshops available every hour starting from 11 am. Want to buy complete official merchandise at an affordable price? At AFAID, it turns out there are many booths selling official merchandise from your favorite anime such as "Chainsaw Man," "Jujutsu Kaisen," "Spy x Family," and many more that you can buy at an affordable price.
One of the booths that sells the merchandise is Multi Toys. There are many types of merchandise sold, such as mouse pad, desk mat, folder file, piggy bank, action figure, acrylic standee, keychain, and pin.
If you are bored with buying merchandise in a 'mainstream' way, you can buy gacha tickets to get official merchandise from "Naruto", "One Piece", or "Pokemon". The sensation of excitement and enthusiasm when checking the gacha number and guessing what prize will be obtained becomes its own attraction of the gacha.
Anime Festival Asia 2024 officially ended, but the euphoria and enthusiasm of J-Culture fans did not stop there. Many hope that AFAID can continue to be held every year as a platform for expression and collaboration for creators, exhibitors, and of course anime fans themselves. Report by Aykaputri Amalia.
