Regardless of the advantages of this technology, if you spend too much time and too often looking at the monitor screen, it is very risky to experience Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).
Computer vision syndrome is an eye disorder that arises from frequent use of computers, tablets, mobile phones, and other digital devices for a long period of time.
When we constantly stare at digital screens, our eyes will feel sore and it becomes difficult to see clearly. Therefore, this can hinder the completion of work quickly.
Some factors that can trigger this syndrome are low-resolution screens, too much focus on the screen, infrequent blinking, and improper screen positioning. Usually, people blink about 12-15 times per minute, while when too focused, the eyes will only blink about 3-7 times per minute. This can make the eyes dry and painful.
Besides that, Neha Kapur, a corneal surgeon, also stated that an improper screen position can make the eyes feel uncomfortable and disrupt vision. "It is better to adjust the screen position to be parallel to the eyes and adjust the viewing angle to reduce glare," said Kapur.
Staring at the screen for a long period of time can strain the eyes. This rule suggests that every 20 minutes, the eyes should look at another object that is 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This can help relax the eye muscles and also provide an opportunity to take regular breaks.
Performing regular eye blinking can help keep the eyes moist. If you don't blink frequently enough, your eyes will feel dry and irritated.
Set the screen distance to 20-28 inches from the eyes and avoid sitting too close to the screen. Because it will make the eyes feel uncomfortable and easily tired.
Adjust the brightness level on the screen and avoid objects that can reflect screen light into the eyes to prevent glare. If necessary, use an anti-glare screen or install an anti-glare filter to reduce reflections and glare.
