Studying Together at Dream Day 2023: Emulating the Simplicity of the Prophet and Companions Who Love to Share

Dream - Simple doesn't mean incapable. It's just that we choose to live content and modestly according to what is needed.

The Prophet also adopted this simple way of life. Even though Prophet Muhammad was offered abundant wealth by Allah.

“The Prophet was offered a mountain of gold by Allah in Uhud in Madinah. But he didn't choose it. The Prophet chose the path of a simple life because the true wealth is in the hereafter,” explained Ustaz Abdul Khoir Rahmat during the Ramadan Month of Social Concern session at the Dream Day Ramadan Fest 2023 event, Friday, April 7, 2023.

Having Shared Wealth

Behind his simplicity, Prophet Muhammad was a wealthy figure due to his success as a merchant. His wife, Khadijah, was a successful entrepreneur.

“The Prophet had wealth but he shared it. He really cared about his people. One of the Prophet's companions who had a characteristic that can be emulated is Saad bin Ubadah, who regularly invited many people to eat at his house every day,” added Ustaz Abdul Khoir.

Fasting During Long Journeys, Including During Umrah

Dream - Fasting during Ramadan is an obligation for Muslims. However, in certain conditions, some people are allowed not to fast if they are unable to do so.

“If you are sick or on a journey, then you are allowed to make up for it on another day, meaning you are allowed not to fast,” explained Ustaz Taufik Al Miftah from Umroh.com at the Dream Day Ramadan Fest 2023 event at the Jakarta Convention Center, Friday, April 7, 2023.

The distance requirement to be eligible for this concession is 85 km. However, with the advancement of time and technology, such as airplanes, traveling has become easier.

“That's why now the distance cannot be used as a measure because now you can reach Surabaya in just 2 hours. So now, according to scholars, distance and hardship are the criteria,” added Ustaz Taufik.

What About Umrah Journeys

So, if the distance is far and there are difficulties, it is allowed not to fast. And it depends on the individual when it comes to Umrah journeys.

“If, for example, you are strong because the plane is comfortable and the purpose is worship, it would be a waste not to fast because this is an act of worship,” explained Ustaz Taufiq.

Umrah Experience 2018

Ustaz Taufiq also shared his experience of performing Umrah in 2018 during Ramadan and felt the unique challenges.

“Indeed, the challenges were extraordinary. I left after Dhuhr and boarded the plane, and it took longer because I didn't follow Indonesian time but the time of the journey, but I had to fast. Even though there were some pilgrims in Mecca who eventually had to cancel due to the 45-degree heat during Ramadan. Their noses were bleeding, their lips were cracked, this is called hardship. It's not too difficult on the journey, but it's difficult there, so it's allowed to be canceled,” Ustaz Taufiq recounted.

However, again, fasting is good for you if you know it. So it's a choice.
