Dream - The status of a father in Islam plays such a significant role in terms of responsibility. Many still believe that this responsibility only pertains to providing for the family's material and financial needs.
The meaning of self-sustenance is broader than money and daily needs, but also psychological and emotional needs, which children greatly require. In the stage of growth and development, children need a figure they consider as a good role model. This is what is seen from their parents, both mother and father.
Often in many situations, fathers are forced to not be able to spend time with their children due to the busyness of work to meet economic needs. For fathers, wisdom and effort are needed to divide time optimally between work and quality time for children.
"As the head of the family, a father should also be involved in the education of his children. This, quoted from KonsultasiSyariah.com, exemplifies a good father as seen from Prophet Ibrahim AS."
Many examples of the Prophets encourage their children to engage in obedience. Like Prophet Ibrahim, who invited his son, Prophet Ismail, to build the Ka'bah. Allah the Almighty says: "And (remember) when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House and (with him) Ismail, (saying), 'Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.'" (Quran 2:127).
"Invite Children to Worship"
"Likewise, the previous scholars also encouraged their children to worship and involve them in righteous deeds."
Among the examples, Amr bin Salamah was appointed as the prayer leader when he was 7 years old. From Amr bin Salamah radhiyallahu'anhu, he said: (HR. Al-Bukhari no. 4302). Meaning: "When my people returned from the Prophet, they conveyed the words of the Prophet: the one who leads a group should be the one who has the most memorization of the Qur'an. So they called me and taught me how to bow and prostrate, then I led them in prayer." (HR. Al-Bukhari no. 4302).
The scholars also train and set an example for their children in fasting. From Ar-Rubayyi' binti Al-Mu'awwidz, she said: The Prophet, peace be upon him, sent a group of people to the village of Anshar. He said: "Whoever wakes up in the morning fasting, let him complete his day with fasting, and whoever wakes up in the morning not fasting, let him fast." She said: "So we used to complete their fasting for them after that, and we used to make toys for them from wool, so when one of them cried for food, we would give them those toys until it was time for iftar."
Meaning: "In the morning of Ashura, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent some companions to the villages of the Ansar (when fasting was obligatory). To convey: "Whoever has had breakfast today, should fast for the rest of the day. And whoever is fasting, should continue his fast." Ar-Rubayyi' said, "After that, we also fasted and we encouraged our children to fast. We made cotton dolls for them. If they cried because they wanted to eat, we gave them the dolls. This continued until it was time to break the fast" (Narrated by Bukhari, Hadith no. 1960)."
"Sincere Support"
"In special moments for children, try to support them by accompanying and intentionally being present for them. The child will feel loved and cherished."
His self-confidence level will increase, as well as his emotions becoming more positive. Try to make the most of the limited time with your child, as this will have a greater impact on his heart in the future. Surely, it will become a good example for him as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. Read more here.
