"Dream - The Paris 2024 Olympics is being held from July 29, 2024, to August 11. Thousands of athletes and official teams have been in France for the past few weeks. In this Olympics, there is a new breakthrough that makes athletes with children very happy."
"For the first time, a nursery area or comfortable play area has been provided for children in the athlete area. This nursery area is specifically designated for athletes who have children to be able to interact comfortably."
"As we know, athletes are not just singles, but also mothers and fathers who still have young children. Being apart for days or even months is certainly very sad."
"That is why the nursery area was created. When the athletes' children come to Paris to meet their parents in between training and matches, there is a safe and comfortable area. The children can also be left here."
The location is in the athlete village in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, near the area of Clarisse Agbegnenou. The International Olympic Committee said last March that it is important for athletes who are parents to find a balance between preparing for their big moment and taking care of their children.
"
Many athletes balance their sports careers and their families. I know what it feels like because I competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics as a mother with a young child," said Emma Terho, chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission.
""Initiated by a former US athlete who sits on the Olympic Committee"
Programs and facilities for children at the Olympics are also influenced by feedback from several athletes who are still breastfeeding. They need a safe and comfortable space to breastfeed or pump breast milk.
"Not only that, France's pride in Judo, Clarisse Agbegnenou, also made a personal request to French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this year to bring her daughter to the competition. Apparently, quite a few athletes from various countries still have babies and are breastfeeding, and they are trying to balance their roles."
One of the athletes who helped launch this initiative is US Athletics legend Allyson Felix, who is an 11-time Olympic medalist and a mother. "I have the experience of competing again with my daughter, and it is really challenging. Even difficult in ways I didn't expect, like staying in hotels, washing bottles, all the stuff that needs to be brought, feeding the baby in the stadium, who will take care of the baby," said Felix to NBC. Wow, this facility is really cool. Cheers to the athlete moms! Source: KyodoNews
