Dream - Being pregnant for 9 months and giving birth and breastfeeding the baby every night, but the first word that comes out of the little one's mouth turns out to be "papa", "father" or "dada"? It might break your heart a little, dear mother, but it turns out this is the reason.
The first words of this baby, according to experts, actually depend on what they often hear. Some also argue that if the first word is not the baby's intention to call their father.
"This is often associated with what babies hear most often," said Stephanie Cohen, a speech-language pathologist and author of "The I Can Say Mama Book"."
There are various reasons why a baby might say "papa" before "mama" that have no relation to parental preference. Diane Paul, director of clinical issues in speech-language pathology at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, believes that babies might simply be echoing what their mother said.
Meanwhile, Cohen argues that babies often hear "dada" or "papa" more frequently because their mothers tend to talk more about their partners than themselves. According to speech pathology experts, it is normal for babies to produce the sound "D" first.
"When a baby says 'mama' or 'dada', the adults will immediately get excited and the baby starts to understand the meaning of those words. Even though the baby is just exploring how their mouth works," said Cohen.
In other words, the first words they utter can actually be just sounds from their mouths. Then there is a theory that is often debated that "dada" is easier to say. Whatever the reason, due to positive reinforcement, babies eventually start associating "dada" or "mama" with the respective parent.
"Slowly but surely, they begin to understand through repeated experiences that when they hear these words ('mama' or 'dada'), it refers to their favorite person. Then, because babies notice that mama or papa respond and many use these words to refer or get attention," said Cohen. Report by Aykaputri Amalia Rahmani/ Source: NY Post
