Dream - Archaeologists discovered a stunning Roman villa complex while excavating in Brookside Meadows, a village in Oxfordshire, England. The expansive complex includes several buildings from the late first and second centuries AD.
One of its main sites is the four large pillars or pole bases, which are one of the largest from the Roman era in England. This site was found in a landscape dating back to the Bronze Age. The villa is decorated with intricate plaster and mosaic. Amongst the discoveries, there are fragments of a structure resembling a monumental hall called "corridor building," with few signs of column rows inside. There are also unique artifacts, such as miniature axes and scrolls, believed to be used in ritual ceremonies.
Louis Stafford, senior project manager at Red River Archaeology Group (RRAG), assesses that the size of this complex indicates that it may be a major feature in the region or even in the wider landscape.

This villa has a central hall that functions as a connector between several rooms. The building may have been constructed before the larger hallway was added, which may have been done as the owner's wealth increased.
The translated text while preserving the html tags would be: "Artefacts found, such as plaster paintings with flower motifs and mosaics, provide an insight into Roman life. A collection of coins, rings, and brooches also offer insights into the interaction between the late Roman civilization and early Anglo-Saxon society."
Director of the site Francesca Giarelli told CNN that the villa is more than just a place of residence during the Roman Empire's rule in England, which lasted from 43 to around 411 AD.
Villa owners often have the task of taking care of plants, repairing roads, and stockpiling food. There are also areas that are repurposed, such as an oven used for drying cereal and hops.
One interesting discovery on this site is a group of tin scrolls resembling Roman "curse sheets". Although currently empty, these scrolls may have been used for rituals or pilgrimages within the plantation. Campbell Gregg, the executive director of the construction company, hopes that further research will help understand the history of the region. Report: Khaira Amaliya.
