"Can We Combine the Intention of Fasting on Syawal and Monday-Thursday? Here's the Explanation"
"Fasting in the month of Shawwal and fasting on Mondays and Thursdays are both voluntary fasts."
"Fasting in the month of Shawwal and fasting on Mondays and Thursdays are both voluntary fasts."
Dream - The month of Syawal should be filled with various recommended deeds in Islam. One of them is observing the optional fast of six days. There are various virtues that can be obtained by observing the fast of six days in the month of Syawal. For example, earning multiplied rewards. However, some Dream companions may wonder, what if the intention of fasting in Syawal and on Mondays and Thursdays are combined? Is it allowed or not? Considering that Ramadan fasting has ended, and Muslims who usually observe the optional fast on Mondays and Thursdays want to resume performing this deed in the month of Syawal.
The following is an explanation of the law regarding combining the intention of fasting Syawal and Monday-Thursday, as summarized by Dream through various sources.
"Fasting in Shawwal has several virtues in Islam. Here are some of the important ones that Muslims should know:"
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: \
Fasting in Shawwal brings great rewards from Allah SWT. Although it is not obligatory, but rather recommended, the rewards are very significant.
"Fasting in Shawwal helps to maintain the habit of fasting after a full month of fasting in Ramadan."
"Fasting in Shawwal can also be considered as an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT for the blessing of completing the fasting in the month of Ramadan."
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) often fasted during the month of Shawwal, although not entirely. It is a highly recommended practice to follow his example.
According to Sheikh Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid (may Allah preserve him), when asked about whether fasting six days in the month of Shawwal can be done on Mondays and Thursdays and still receive the reward of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
He said it is permissible and not a problem. The reward obtained is the reward for fasting six days of Shawwal and fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. He also said that if fasting six days of Shawwal coincides with fasting on Monday or Thursday, then fasting Shawwal will also receive the reward of fasting Shawwal. This is in accordance with the saying of the Prophet Muhammad, "Indeed, every action is based on intention and every person will receive the reward for what they intended." (Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen in Fatawa Islamiyyah, 2:154)
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Fasting in the month of Shawwal itself is included in the worship intended for its own sake, while fasting on Mondays and Thursdays is not intended for its own sake. With that being said, both can be combined and, God willing, one can obtain the rewards of fasting in Shawwal as well as fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. The Prophet Muhammad said: "Indeed, actions are judged by intentions, and each person will receive according to what they intended." (Muttafaq 'alaih)"
