Dream - After completing worship in the month of Ramadan, what should we do to maintain obedience even though the holy month has passed? Aa Gym, the leader of Pondok Pesantren Daarut Tauhid Bandung, explained in one of his sermons that there are two ways to interpret the month of Ramadan which can maintain the obedience of worship afterwards.
According to him, some people consider the month of Ramadan as a prison, so the arrival of the month of Shawwal is seen as freedom, feeling that they have been released from the restrictions that exist in the month of Ramadan. It is known that there are indeed many prohibitions against various things that can invalidate fasting or Ramadan worship.
However, on the other hand, there are also those who see the month of Ramadan as a training center, so that with the arrival of the month of Shawwal, it is time to evaluate and prove whether they have succeeded in training and forging themselves during the month of Ramadan, which can then be applied in the month of Shawwal and the following months.
According to Aa Gym, in this life there is something called karomah or nobility, which Allah bestows upon those who are consistent in doing good. So, to obtain nobility, it is important for Muslims to be consistent in doing good. A person who is consistent is likened to water whose drops continuously drips on a stone, even though slowly, but because it is continuous, even a hard stone can be hollowed out. The same applies to human beings.
Someone finds it difficult to achieve goals because they are not consistent in their efforts. Similarly, it is difficult to maintain discipline after Ramadan because it may be due to not being sincere in practicing it. Consistency is a gift from Allah and can only be obtained by those who are truly devoted. Allah SWT says, "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good." (Quran, Al-Ankabut: 69)
Based on the above verse, Allah SWT will grant ease to someone to always do good as long as they are sincerely committed to practicing it. Whether it is sincerity in doing it or sincerity in intention only to seek Allah SWT's approval.
To maintain the spirit and consistency of worship after the month of Ramadan, Aa Gym suggests that we, as Muslims, continue to increase our remembrance of Allah. By remembering Allah, we recall His greatness and all His glory. Allah will remember His servants who always remember Him, even if we forget Him, Allah will still remember us.
"Allah will grant blessings to those who diligently remember Him wherever and whenever. By frequently remembering Allah, we will be given ease to remain steadfast in worshiping Him. Allah SWT says, 'So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.' (Surah Al-Baqarah: 152)"
There are various ways to remember Allah. Besides reciting Laa ilaaha ilallah or increasing prayers, salah (prayer) is also a form of remembrance, even the best form of remembrance to recall Allah. So, the question now is whether our salah is good or not. Because good remembrance is when we pray with focus.
This is why, Aa Gym emphasizes the importance of improving the quality of prayer. If you feel that your prayer is not optimal yet, start by performing ablution properly, strengthening your intention, and paying attention to every step in the prayer process, including the clothing you wear. Although it may be difficult for some people to not be distracted by other things during prayer, the most important thing is how we strive to refocus on Allah during prayer.
This month has other special qualities besides celebrating Eid al-Fitr, namely as a good month for getting married.
