Paleontologists have discovered a new genus and species of dinosaur in the rock formation of Morocco. This new dinosaur belongs to the family Lambeosaurinae Hadrosauridae, known as dwarf dinosaurs or duck-billed dinosaurs. Based on their research, these dinosaurs are believed to have originated from the late Cretaceous period, with an estimated age of around 68 million years. The Lambeosaurinae Hadrosauridae species, or duck-billed dinosaurs, have a size comparable to the modern ducks we are familiar with today.
Duck-billed dinosaur from the lambeosaurinae group, hadrosaurus, was a successful herbivore that underwent a major radiation during the Late Cretaceous period. This group of lambeosaurinae hadrosaurus evolved in North America during the Turonian stage approximately 90 to 94 million years ago, and later spread to Asia and Europe.
The presence of lambeosaurinae hadrosaurs in the African region has caused confusion among experts. This is due to the fact that Africa was previously isolated from Laurasia through deep waters since the mid-Jurassic period, while lambeosaurinae hadrosaurs evolved during the Late Cretaceous period. The resolution to this paradox leads to the belief that lambeosaurinae hadrosaurs, or duck-billed dinosaurs, might have traveled across waters and swam to reach the African region.
Analysis by paleontologists shows that the Lambeosaurinae Hadrosaurus group initially underwent diversification in Asia before spreading to North America. This development was then followed by dispersal to Europe, and eventually reaching North Africa. According to scientists, the diversity of Lambeosaurinae Hadrosaurus found in Europe and Africa indicates the occurrence of radiation dispersal. In this process, Lambeosaurinae Hadrosaurus underwent diversification to utilize the relatively low diversity of ornithischia in both continents.
