Dream - The latest developments in the Middle East have attracted the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially after the attack carried out by Israel on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Damascus. The Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation and continues to coordinate with the Indonesian representatives in the Middle East, including the Indonesian Embassy in Amman and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in the region.
In continuous communication and coordination, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Amman has been in contact with Indonesian citizens residing in Israel. Until now, there have been no reports regarding Indonesian citizens affected by Iran's retaliatory attacks on Israel on April 14, 2024.
Although so, monitoring efforts and assistance to Indonesian citizens (WNI) continue to be actively carried out. Based on data recorded in the KBRI Amman database, there are approximately 115 WNI residing in Israel, with the majority of them located in the cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Arava. Meanwhile, KBRI Tehran notes that there are around 376 WNI living in Iran, with the majority of them being students who reside in the city of Qom.
"Before the escalation occurred, on April 13, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an advisory to Indonesian citizens to increase their vigilance and postpone travel to Iran and Israel. This step was taken as a preventive measure considering the unstable situation in the region."
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also prepared emergency measures by providing hotline information that can be contacted to receive assistance. Indonesian citizens who need emergency assistance in Iran can contact the KBRI Tehran hotline at +989024668889. Meanwhile, in Amman, Indonesian citizens can contact the KBRI Amman hotline at +962779150407. In addition, the KBRI Cairo also has an emergency hotline with the number +201022229989.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to monitor and provide protection to Indonesian citizens abroad are part of Indonesia's commitment to safeguard the safety and well-being of its citizens wherever they may be.
Apart from that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also continues to establish communication and coordination with various relevant parties at the international level, as a step to obtain more comprehensive information and ensure security and stability in the Middle East region.
