Dream - Is it allowed to pray when the azan is being called? This is often a question for some Muslims. Because there are some people who, when the azan is being called, have already performed their prayers. Whereas if we remember, Islam teaches that when we hear the azan, we are commanded to respond to the azan. So, when someone immediately prays while the azan is still being called, then they have missed the reward of responding to the call of the azan.

Imam Ahmad opines that prayer can be performed while the call to prayer is still audible and there is no prohibition to do so. Sheikh Shaleh bin Fauzan bin Abdullah al Fauzan also states that prayer is permissible while the call to prayer is still audible, as long as it does not disturb the tranquility of the congregation. The basis for their opinion is the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, which states that prayer can be performed at the time of the call to prayer.

According to the Shafi'i school of thought, performing prayers while the call to prayer can still be heard is also valid, but it is recommended to wait until the call to prayer is finished. The time mentioned as the time of acceptance for supplication is between the call to prayer and the iqamah, which is when the call to prayer has finished and before the official prayer begins with the iqamah.

This is the recommended time to pray because it is likely that prayers will be answered. During the implementation of prayer when the call to prayer is still echoing, Muslims are expected to give full concentration to the call as a sign of respect. This also shows respect to the muazin who is reciting the call to prayer. Therefore, although it is permissible to perform prayers while the call to prayer is still heard, it is better to wait until the call to prayer is finished before starting the prayer.

The procedure for responding to the call to prayer is by repeating every sentence of the call to prayer shouted by the muezzin. For example, when the muezzin says "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar", we must repeat it as "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar" and so on until the call to prayer is finished. The ruling on responding to the call to prayer according to several schools of thought is a highly recommended sunnah, which means it is strongly encouraged to be done.

The importance of this practice in seeking the intercession of Prophet Muhammad is emphasized in the hadith narrated by Muslim, which means that a person will receive the intercession of Prophet Muhammad if they greet him. As Muslims, responding to the call to prayer is one of the noble and recommended practices. By responding to the call to prayer, we will receive great rewards, the intercession of Prophet Muhammad, and blessings in performing voluntary prayers.
