The Great Sin of Slander in the Quran and Hadith, Complete with its Dangers in the World & Hereafter.
"Allah SWT has commanded His people to fight against fitnah."
"Allah SWT has commanded His people to fight against fitnah."
Dream - Slander is one of the acts that Allah SWT greatly detests. Yes, this is because it harms others. Where slander is the act of defaming others by spreading negative information about something that is actually not done by that person. Slander can happen to anyone and anywhere. Even slander can also be done by our closest people. Therefore, Dream's friends must be careful when interacting with someone.
"Indeed, Allah SWT has commanded His people to fight against fitnah (temptation and corruption). As explained in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 193:"
"And fight against them until there is no more persecution and (until) obedience is only for Allah. If they cease (hostility), then there is to be no aggression except against the oppressors." So, what about the sins committed by those who like to spread slander? Here is the explanation as summarized by Dream through various sources.
Someone who likes to spread slander will certainly receive sins from Allah SWT. In fact, Allah SWT will also place those people in the hellfire.
This is explained in His word through the Al-Buruj verse 10: "Indeed, those who bring about mischief to the believers, whether male or female, and then do not repent, for them is the punishment of Hell, and for them is the punishment of the Burning Fire." The mischief directed towards someone can vary. One of the dangerous ones is if one slanders a Muslim for committing adultery.
In Islam, a person who has slandered must be punished with 80 lashes. They are also considered among the wicked people, whose testimony will never be accepted. Allah SWT says in Surah An-Nur verse 4: "And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient."
Regarding this act of slander, it is also explained in the hadith. Where a person who commits slander will receive a great sin. "Indeed, the two people of the grave are being tortured, and they are not being tortured because of a great sin. Yes, it is true. Indeed, that sin is very great. One of them is (those) who walk on the earth by spreading slander (backbiting). While the other does not cover himself when urinating." (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
"In Islam, slandering or accusing someone without evidence is a highly prohibited act and has serious consequences. Some dangers and consequences of slandering others in Islam are:"
emfitnah is included as a major sin that is greatly hated by Allah SWT. In the Quran, Allah says: "And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly born upon themselves a slander and manifest sin." (QS. Al-Ahzab: 58)
"Slander can unfairly damage someone's reputation and honor. This can result in psychological and social suffering for the one being slandered."
Slander can destroy trust among individuals and society. When slander spreads, trust among members of society can be lost, causing social fractures.
People who slander will receive appropriate retribution in the afterlife. Allah SWT will hold them accountable for their actions, and the punishment in the afterlife will be severe for those who slander.
"Slander can destroy family relationships, friendships, and professional relationships. Slander can trigger conflicts and divisions that are difficult to mend."
In some cases, defamation can also have legal consequences in the world, such as accusations of defamation that can result in fines or imprisonment in certain jurisdictions.
As Muslims, we are taught to always speak the truth and avoid all forms of lies and slander. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever does not leave falsehood in speech and action, Allah has no need for him to leave his food and drink." (Narrated by Bukhari). Therefore, it is important to always be cautious in speaking and ensure that the information we convey is true and does not harm others.
